How we select the food we serve at Bedknobs and the Suppliers that we use

At Bedknobs we serve the cream of Cornwall’s produce – all locally sourced and low mileage. Here are some of the Producers and Suppliers (in no particular order) who help us to do just that.

Malcom Barneycutt - Bakers
Fresh-baked split tin and sandwich white loaves, Harvester, Wholemeal and Rustic Browns, Cornish Pasties (Steak and Stilton are wonderful), Trewithen milk for guest room fridges and clotted cream for our wonderful Cornish Cream Teas and Cornish Porridge!
Philip Johnson - Butchers
Cornish greenback bacon and ham that come from The Cornish Farmhouse Bacon Company. Their pigs are reared kindly on the family farm, then processed after slaughter in the family-owned on-site abbatoir - the only pig processing plant in Cornwall and Devon. This ensures that any bacon we serve you here at Bedknobs is about as sustainable as it gets, having travelled no more than 35 miles from sty to plate. Philip Johnson makes his own tasty sausages and delicious Peppery or Herby Hog’s Pudding, with pork reared on a farm in Bude North Cornwall. We buy all our meat from Philip Johnson as well as Davidstow Mature Cheddar cheese.
Folly Foods - Health Foods
Here we source Queenswood Grade A Organic cereals, dried fruit and nuts including: Mr Bumble's luxury Muesli organic Porridge Oats dried fruit and nuts delicious farm-made Cornish Cheeses locally produced yoghurt Meridian Organic peanut butter Green & Black's organic chocolate spread Green & Black's drinking chocolate Simply Gentle Organic cotton wool and cotton buds Ecover dishwasher tablets, rinse aid, liquid handsoap, Ecover washing powder (10kg sack) - and washing-up liquid and WC cleaner both in 5 ltr containers

Burt's Crisps
Tasty crisps hand-made in Devon - one of the few 'imported' products to be found at Bedknobs!
Furniss Biscuits
At Bedknobs we offer complimentary mini-packs of traditional Cornish Fairing biscuits on the hospitality trays – replenished daily of course!
Origin Coffee
Our choice is the Guatamalan, researched, specially selected and blended by owner Tom Sobey who founded this small Cornish company in 2002. The coffee is Rainforest Alliance which in this instance, gives the farmers a better deal than Fair Trade.
Plough to Plate
We source all the above products through local Supplier Plough to Plate that serves the local hospitality industry with top quality Cornish (and slightly further afield) produce. It's great for small businesses like Bedknobs who, by our very nature are too small to meet the normal minimum order requirements of individual Producers. It also avoids 8 separate phone calls!
Camel Valley
Multi-award winning Vineyard (3 miles away) that supply Bedknobs with "Cornwall", Camel Valley's sparkling bubbly that accompanies every Champagne Breakfast served at Bedknobs B&B.
