We do like our eggs at Bedknobs, in fact our lunch usually consists of a boiled or poached egg and soldiers. The story of how we obtain our eggs seems to typify everything we do, so we thought they deserved their very own page.
Chris and Theresa run a small farm (and self-catering cottages) out on Bodmin Moor at Deviock. Her amazing collection of hens comprise some rescue birds as well as Marams and various other breed all of which have free range of the farm. This year the hens started laying around the end of February and produced a wonderful variety of eggs of all different sizes, all with beautiful deep yellow yokes.
Egg Cycling
We recycle any left-over or stale bread and toast as well as any leftover stale cereals, scones and biscuits and Theresa picks this up when passing, even when the hens aren't laying.
All eggboxes are also returned for reuse and a proportion of the egg-shells go into our own compost.
Sadly, the Chickens occasionally go broody and stop laying, but fortunately we are able to get other good quality local farm eggs from our butcher, Philip Johnson.
