The Bedknobs Guide to St Catherine's Castle
You can find out more about St Catherine's Castle, including opening times and events by visiting the website listed below.
St Catherine's Castle
Not actually a castle, but a small two-storey coastal fort built by Henry VIII to provide protection to Fowey harbour from marauding French and Spanish ships after the Reformation. The site was extended to include a small swivelling gun battery at the time of the Crimean war, and again during WWII.
Planning a Day Out
The castle is situated at St Catherine's Point which is just to the West of and accessible from Readymoney Cove. It's well worth the trip as it's completely free of charge and you will get some excellent views across Fowey harbour.
If travelling by car you can park off Tower Park road and take the footpath down to Readymoney Cove where you can then walk up to St Catherine's point.
For those that enjoy walking there is a circular walk from here along the South West Coast path to Gribben Head, then onto Polkerris and then back to Readymoney Cove by public footpath.
